Marie Curieosity isn’t your typical burlesque performer.  Instead of finding the charm of simply being sexy on stage, she was enthralled with the history of burlesque from it’s Vaudeville evolution through it’s current day incarnation.  Her penchanct for history and drama were the perfect combination to begin her foray into modern day burlesque.  With 25+ years on the stage and 6 of those years focusing on burlesque, she has been able to meld intelligence, character, and sexy on the stage with her unique performance style that ranges from hilarious to unflinchingly serious.  As a founding member of Plan 9 Burlesque she is taking her love of dance and theater to help create a new outlet for all Chicago burlesque dancers who want to break out of the traditional mold.  With the rest of Plan 9, she’s aiming to redefine Chicago burlesque; succeed where others have failed and create a group based on talent, drive, dedication, and equality.

She can also turn herself into a variety of dinosaurs.  Her favorite form is currently a tie between a t-rex and a deinonychus.

Questionnaire

  • How did you get started in Burlesque and Plan 9?

I was looking for the happy medium between dance and storytelling, with a healthy dose of the sexy.  After finding my own burlesque personality, I helped found Plan 9 so all of our nerdy, naughty dreams could come true.

  • Is there a story behind your burlesque name?

Marie Curie has been a favorite of mine since childhood.  I wanted to pay homage to a woman known for her epic contributions to science; a woman not usually thought of combined with burlesque.  I enjoy making people think while i take off my clothes.

  • What is your favorite number?

My favorite number is a tie between my Grey Gardens number where I honor the great cult icon Little Edie Beale and my Batman/Joker number where I get to embody both characters in one performance

  • If you could be any fictional character who would you be and why?

That’s a tough one.  All my favorite characters are from history and they are real.  But I’d have to say James Bond because he’s the perfect sexy super spy.  What’s better than that??

  • What’s one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

That I’m old!!  No, that’s not true.  No one is surprised to learn that.  Seriously though, people would be surprised to learn that I'm a time traveler. That's all I can disclose at the moment.

  • Where else can people find your work?

I get to play with lots of friends in the city including guesting with Original Tease, Debonair and House of Burlesque at the House of Blues Chicago.

  • What is your dream nerdlesque number?

I would love to do a number involving tesla coils that vaporize the clothes right off my body, but I can't afford it...yet.
